Applications for the 2023 Karuna Training Cohort. Our 1.5 year journey will kick off in person from September 29 - October 1, 2023 at the HUH Center in Denver Colorado. 

The final graduation seminar will be four days also non-residential and in person at the HUH Center in Denver.
There will be eight courses total, including two deepening week retreats at Drala Mountain Center  in Red Feather Colorado. One course will occur online for seven sessions. 

Participants who complete the full training will be certified for 224 hours of training in Contemplative Psychology.

EIGHT SEMINARS: The training includes eight seminars - two of which are week-long retreats and one of which is a 7-week online course. A 25 hour project with a mentor and peer support. The seminars are scheduled roughly every three months.

PLACE: In-person non-residential retreats take place at the Human Universal Health Institute and two deepening week residential retreats  take place at Drala Mountain Center. All other training is fulfilled online through live programs and self-paced study.

FACULTY: The Faculty of Karuna Training includes Melissa Moore, Ph.D.; Miriam Hall, and other faculty. You can learn more about our highly credentialed and compassionate team on the Meet the Faculty page.

PARTICIPANTS: Students of Karuna Training come from all walks of life and many professions. You do not have to be a therapist nor a Buddhist to benefit from Karuna Training. Our graduates have also included medical professionals, teachers, coaches, artists, business managers, and parents.

COSTS

Your payment options

The 1.5-year Karuna Training is $7000 for the entire certification program.

In addition, you pay the cost of room and board for the in-person retreats at Drala Mountain Center. There are dormitory, double, and single rates available.

Payment Options
Option A: Payment in full for the 1.5-year program is $6500. A $500 discount if you pay in full before the onset of the training.

Option B: Payment by Phase: You can make interest-free payments starting at enrollment over the course of the training. To receive a certificate, one's program needs to be paid in full. We can tailor the payments to your budget.

Option C: Monthly Payment Plans: Some scholarship money is available to support access to Karuna Training. We determine scholarships on a needs basis. The finances are discussed in your entrance interviews; you can then ask for financial assistance.
Drala Mountain Center Additional Retreat Costs

There are additional costs for food and lodging for the four residential retreats—two are four-day, and two are week-long.

Food and Lodging
: Most weekends happening at HUH are non-residential, so if you do not live in the area, there are nearby hotels and Airbnb options, which are your responsibility to book along with transportation. We can support you with a list of options. Prepared foods can be brought to the seminar house on weekends, or there are nearby options.

Costs for our in-person retreats at Drala Mountain Center range from $140 to $250 per night. Typically, the total for all four in-person retreats (18 nights in total) ranges from $2,538 to $4,500, excluding your personal travel expenses to get to each retreat.

Method of Payment: Payments can be made by check or credit card once you are accepted into the program.

Other Things To Know

CEUs: Karuna Training (license #137058) is approved by the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists to sponsor continuing education for mental health professionals. Karuna Training maintains responsibility for this program and its content. Course meets the qualifications for 120 hours of continuing education credit for LMFTs, LCSWs, LPCCs, and/or LEPs as required by the California Board of Behavioural Sciences. For licensed attendees outside of California who are interested in continuing education credit, please check with your State Board, to see if California CEUs are accepted.

TUITION ASSISTANCE: Financial scholarships can be discussed on a needs basis during the entrance interview.

COHORT CAPACITY AND ATTENDANCE: Each cohort is limited to 25 students and closes after the 2nd seminar, in order to build on the community established within a cohort. Whether joining for the full two-year program or one phase at a time, students are required to commit to attend all but two programs and to make up for the absence by listening to recordings. More than two programs missed will result in not receiving the certificate, but one can complete the program.
